What is a verified school directory? Most school directories are built from information that is gathered the same way you look for school info-- by typing words into a search engine and then placing that info on the site. The second method that is used is to contact different sites, and offer them reciprocal link deals to better the search engine placement of the hosting site. Unfortunately, neither of these approaches is very useful to you. What we do is to actually call the contact person submitting information to us one to two times a year, every year, to verify that the school exists and the information is accurate.
Why would you verify the information? To insure that a school has remained open and active. Martial artists often lack even the most basic knowledge about business, and so schools and clubs fail very quickly, with fewer than 1% succeeding. If a school is listed here, they are usually active and have been contacted to confirm information. The contact person could be lying of course, but you know that they were around to at least take the call.
Why would you do that? Your ability to find and practice a Filipino art increases your need to purchase gear and information for training in a Filipino art, which is what the Filipino portion of the website sells. It's good for you and good for us.
Water Mountain makes no attempt to verify backgrounds. We do not favor any particular systems within the directory. We simply check on the existence of the school. We are not promoting or advocating the programs at any school contained herein.
